HISTORY OF STANDARD
Standard Products Inc. was established in 1961 by the late Haskel Nathaniel. The business began as an importer of toys and evolved, in time, to other products including footwear, luggage, batteries, playing cards, safety gloves, and electrical tape. David Nathaniel, the current President & CEO, joined the business in August 1982 and concentrated the product offering by eliminating all product lines except for electrical tape. He added more tapes to the category, successfully landed large retail accounts, including Canadian Tire, Radio Shack, and Woolco, and began to focus on electrical wholesalers by appointing commissioned agents to stock and sell the tapes across Canada.
In his pursuit to add complimentary products to the tape line, David concluded, after much study, that there was an opportunity to enter the lamp (light bulb) business. In 1998, STANDARD complimented its lamp product offering to include ballasts, safety coated lamps, optical components, and sockets.
Today, STANDARD’s product line consists of lamps, ballasts, optics, fixtures, sockets, and other related accessories.
